We're excited to answer your questions about our martial arts program designed specifically for children.

What is Aikido?

   Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on self-defense techniques that use an opponent's energy and movements against them. It's not about fighting, but about harmony and peaceful resolution of conflicts.


Is Aikido safe for children?

   Yes, Aikido is a safe martial art for children. It emphasizes control, balance, and cooperation rather than aggression. Our classes are structured to ensure safety, and we provide proper supervision and guidance.


What age groups are suitable for the Children's Aikido Program?

 Our Aikido Youth Program is for ages 7-13. We focus on age-appropriate techniques and teaching methods to engage and benefit children.

Our Aiki-Kids Program is for ages 4-6. This is a great class to build coordination, focus, and confidence while having fun!



What are the benefits of Aikido for children?

   Aikido offers several benefits for children, including improved physical fitness, enhanced coordination, increased self-confidence, better focus and discipline, and the ability to resolve conflicts peacefully.



Do children have to spar or fight in Aikido classes?

   No, Aikido does not involve sparring or fighting like some other martial arts. Instead, children learn techniques to redirect an opponent's energy without causing harm. Safety is a top priority in our classes.



What do children wear in Aikido classes?

   In our Aikido program, children typically wear a white uniform called a gi. We have children’s gi available for purchase.


Is there a ranking system in Aikido for children?

   Yes, Aikido uses a ranking system based on colored belts to mark a student's progress and skill level. As children advance in their training, they can earn different belt colors through evaluations and tests.



How often are Aikido classes held for children?

Typically, children attend two to three classes a week. We recommend a minimum of twice a week in order to retain lessons and make progress.


Can parents watch their children during Aikido classes?

   We encourage parents to observe classes, especially for younger children. It can help parents understand their child's progress and see the positive impact of Aikido on their development. Parental support is part of the equation in a child’s long-term progress.
